Chennai, Dec 08: A joint action council comprising representatives of religious minorities and some dalit organisations will take out a procession in the city tomorrow to protest the recent anti-conversion law enacted by the Tamil Nadu government.
Disclosing this to reporters here today, Puthiya Tamilagham (PT) chief Dr S Krishnasamy said that the processionists would also submit a memorandum to the tehsildar. Alleging that the anti-conversion law was brought out at the behest of Kanchi Sankacharaya, he claimed that the legislation was instead driving the dalits to convert to other religions.
The church of South India, Roman Catholics, Dalit Panters of India, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munettra Kazhagam and PT were among those who would participate in the procession, he said.
The council's request for permission to take out a procession from a point in the city to the Raj Bhavan was rejected by the police, he said.
