Berlin, Sept 30: Michael Schumacher stole all the headlines in the German press as his victory in the Indianapolis Grand Prix put him on the brink of a historic sixth Formula One title.

"Schumi that was your greatest victory," declared German daily Bild. "The whole of Germany will salute you in two weeks if you win the title in Japan."
The Ferrari driver saluted the Bridegstone tyres after Sunday's race in the United States but the German press preferred to heap praise on Schumacher's renowned ability for driving in the wet.
Bild labelled him a "God in the rain" adding that the title was "now within touching distance." Berlin-based newspaper Die Welt called the triumph "a milestone on the way to history."
Indeed Schumacher, 34, will overtake Argentine legend Juan Manuel Fangio's record in notching up a sixth title and his fourth in a row.

Fangio won five championships in the 1950s with three of them in succession.

The Japanese Grand Prix takes place at Suzuka in a fortnight with Schumacher needing just a point to establish himself as the greatest driver of all time.
