Athens, May 26: International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge yesterday met with Greece premier Costas Caramanlis and toured the main Olympic complex. Rogge was to visit the main complex to assess progress on the delayed project ahead of the Aug. 13-29 games. Crews have moved the first of two steel-and-glass roof arches into place, but have not started moving the second. Organizers had promised to have the roof done by mid-may. It is unclear when the work will finish, but the IOC has said the stadium must be completed by the end of June to allow for other necessary work on the venue. Rogge also plans to meet with opposition socialist party leader George Papandreou before leaving Athens. Rogge attended a ceremony Monday on the Pnyx Hill facing the ancient Acropolis to mark the start of an annual sports seminar in ancient Olympia, where the Olympics were born 2,780 years ago.
