Varanasi, Nov 08: Tension prevailed in Kashmiri Ganj area when two groups of people clashed over a piece of land here today following which Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force was deployed to control the situation. A few people sustained minor injuries in the brickbatting and the police had to use mild force to disperse the mob, police sources said. Trouble began when a group of people led by Swami Ram Kamal Das Vedanti, a VHP leader and priest of Ramjanki temple allegedly tried to take possession of a piece of land owned by a Yadav family, sources said. They said followers of Vedanti also started singing bhajans and kirtan there. ,br> Police, PAC and Rapid Action Force were deployed in the area in strength and the situation was now under control. The followers of Vedanti have demanded the removal of police officials who resorted to lathi charge. They have also alleged that Vedanti was injured in police lathi charge.
