Jammu, May 06: Jammu and Kashmir government has undertaken the rehabilitation of 1,250 families who have been left homeless by continuous shelling along the Indo-Pak borders, during the first phase, senior officials said here. "We are rehabilitating 1,250 families and 6,872 people, who had to leave their homes due to continuous Pak-shelling and firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor district of Jammu district in first phase," the officials said today.
These families would be rehabilitated in safer places from Pak-shelling and firing in Naiwalla and Gurah Jagir villages of Akhnoor area, they said adding as many as 1,500 kanals of land has so far been acquired at Naiwalla village and 500 kanals at Gurah Jagir village.
Each migrant family is being provided plot of 50x25 for construction of its home, they said adding government would also extend financial help to these border migrants for construction of their houses.
Due to incessant and unprovoked firing from across the border, 6000 houses on Zero line in Akhnoor area of Jammu district have been damaged during last three years.
Besides, road and building department has been assigned task of assessing the damages done to the property including buildings in the border area, they said adding 1,280 such houses have been assessed.
A comprehensive programme is being launched to re-construct the damaged buildings in the area, they said adding school buildings, panchayat ghars and community centers would be repaired soon.
The facilities of primary health centres, drinking water and power supply are also been completed in the border villages, they added. Bureau Report
