New Delhi, Sept 12: Eyeing to improve India's dismal record at the Olympics, the government yesterday announced setting up of a "high-level" preparation committee for the 2004 edition at Athens under the chairmanship of All India Council of Sports president V K Malhotra.
The committee will have six other distinguished members and it will be "empowered to make recommendations on all matters pertaining to the preparation of the Indian contingent for the Athens games", according to an official press release here.
The other members of the committee are -- Arun Jaitley, Minister of Law and Justice and Commerce and Industry, and veteran sports administrators - K P Singh Deo, Ashwini Kumar, Suresh Kalmadi and Shekhar Dutt. The secretary of the Railways Sports Promotion Board would also be included as a member in the committee.

The release said the committee would start its functioning from yesterday and will wind up its work on September 30, 2004 or on submission of its report to government on performance of the Indian contingent in Olympics.
