LA, Mar 09: - Prosecutors in Los Angeles on Monday filed a new charge of disorderly conduct against rocker Courtney Love stemming from her arrest last Oct. 2 outside the home of a boyfriend where police said she was breaking windows in the middle of the night. Love, 39, the widow of rock star Kurt Cobain, already faces trial on a charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance stemming from that arrest.
Hours after being released on bail, she was taken to a local hospital for what police called a "medical emergency" and was later charged separately in Beverly Hills with two counts of unlawful possession of prescription painkillers. A preliminary hearing in that case is set for next Tuesday.

The new charge in Los Angeles accuses Love of endangering people in a public place while on drugs, said Jerry Baik, the prosecutor overseeing the case. He said the charge was added to the original complaint in case prosecutors have difficulty making the earlier charge stick.
The recording star had been scheduled to stand trial last month in Los Angeles, but the case was postponed after Love fired her former attorney at the last minute, saying, "He wanted me to plead guilty to something I didn't do."
Her new lawyer, Michael Rosenstein, won an additional extension on Monday. The next hearing was set for April 5, when Rosenstein will present his motion to have drug test results in the case barred as inadmissible.

If Love is convicted, she would face a sentence of 90 days to a year in jail. Alternatively, she could plead guilty and avoid jail by entering a drug treatment program.

Love, who last month released her latest album, "America's Sweetheart," has pleaded innocent to all the charges. She is also embroiled in a battle with relatives of her late husband for custody of their 11-year-old daughter.
