Dhaka, Feb 22: Veteran Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis has accepted an offer to join the International Cricket Council's (ICC) bowlers inspection panel to identify bowlers with suspect actions at the ongoing Under-19 World Cup.
According to The News , the three-member team comprises Waqar Younis, Bob Woolmer, the former England player and South Africa coach now working for the ICC, and Bruce Elliott, an expert in biomechanical analysis who has worked with a number of players on their bowling actions. Dave Richardson, the ICC's general manager, said he believed their presence at the World Cup is an important step towards dealing with the problem of throwing in the game. "The game's elite young cricketers are all in Bangladesh and it is expected many of them will gradate to full international cricket over the coming years," Richardson said. "By identifying any player who has a flaw in their technique now, there is the opportunity to address the problem before they graduate to senior international cricket," he added. The panel will travel to Dhaka and Chittagong , where they will be able to watch all participating teams. Players reported by the panel will be referred to the relevant national board for remedial action before he can be considered for selection at international level. Bureau Report
