Kathmandu, Nov 05: A bomb planted by suspected Maoist rebels exploded today outside the palace of Nepal's Crown Prince Paras but there were no injuries or damage, an army official said.
Troops were immediately deployed in force to the
Prince's sprawling Nirmal Niwas compound in Kathmandu, the
official told.
"We are waiting for further details on the nature of the bomb. But there was no significant damage and no one was hurt," he said.
The heir to the throne lives in Nirmal Niwas with his wife Crown Princess Himani and their three children: two-year-old princess Purnika, one-year-old Prince Hridayendra and a second daughter who was born in October and per tradition will be named when she is six months old.
Paras survived a June 2001 massacre at the main royal palace, Narayanhiti, when 10 members of the family, including King Birendra, were shot dead by Crown Prince Dipendra.
An official report said Dipendra, who turned the gun on himself, was drunk and enraged his parents would not let him marry his girlfriend.
King Gyanendra, Paras's father, was away from Kathmandu during the bloodbath. Bureau Report
