Hyderabad, Oct 21: Amidst speculation over early assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh in the aftermath of naxalite attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the opposition Congress today said the people were "eagerly waiting to throw out the inefficient and corrupt TDP government". Accusing the ruling TDP of trying to "create sympathy to garner votes", the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Y S Rajasekhar Reddy told reporters here that the government owed an explanation for the 'deliberate uncertainty' on the timing of elections.

"People have a right to know. The onus is on the government to clear the air of uncertainty on the timing of elections," Reddy said.

While asserting that his party was fully geared to face polls whenever they were held, he challenged TDP to spell out the grounds on which it was planning to seek a fresh mandate.

Referring to a spate of recent announcements by Naidu, doling out sops to weaker sections and speeding up implementation of welfare schemes, the CLP leader alleged that they were aimed at "hoodwinking people once again and garnering votes".
The announcements pertaining to distribution of 23 lakh ration cards and five lakh house sites were a pointer towards TDP's 'cheap gimmicks to cheat people', he added.
