Mumbai, July 15: Indian students put up a brilliant performance bagging two gold and silver medals each at the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) which concluded in Athens, Greece, to Prof S D Samant, the mentor of the Indian Olympiad team said today. Out of the 59 countries, China, Iran and Thailand and India bagged the first three positions in terms of medals, Samant told a press conference here on his return from Athens today.
An Indian student, Yashodhan Kanoria (Mumbai) obtained the second highest score securing 94.4 per cent among all the 232 student participants in the world contest while Arvindhan Vijayrhagavan from Chennai got 91 per cent, he said.
China won four gold medals, Iran and Thailand bagged three gold medals and one silver each while India won two gold and two silver medals, Samant said adding that Indian students' performance was brilliant consistently for the fourth consecutive year.
Surprisingly, both US and UK did not bag a single gold medal, he said.
The US bagged three silver medals and one bronze and UK got one silver and three bronze, said Dr Swapan Ghosh, also a mentor of the Indian team said.
The silver medal winners of ICHO are Vikram Balasubramanian from Chennai and Kiran Chikkadi from Bangalore.
