Allahabad, Mar 23: Defending Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for not "succumbing" to the opposition's demand for passing a resolution condemning the US-led attack on Iraq, Union Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi said the prime minister must be allowed to choose appropriate words expressing India's concern. Referring to the opposition parties criticism of the government for not adopting a resolution condemning the war against Iraq, Joshi said the matter should be left to the prime minister to articulate India's view in appropriate words keeping in view the national interest and international opinion on the issue. Joshi said the country, under the leadership of Vajpayee has time and again made clear its disagreement with the US on the Iraq issue, but the same need not be articulated by taking a hawkish stand. The war on Iraq could have been avoided, Joshi said adding large section of international community is against war and even in the US anti-war protests are taking place. Bureau Report
