Siliguri, Nov 13: Tarakeswar Lohar, the prime
accused of Dalgaon massacre case in which 19 persons were
burnt alive on November six in Jalpaiguri district was again
sent to police remand for two days by the Sub-Divisional
Judicial Magistrate, Alipurduar, Shyamsundar Chatterjee
yesterday.
Meanwhile, Lohar while talking to reporters yesterday
claimed that he was a Citu leader and also a CPI-M member. The
CPI-M leadership had sent few persons at his residence to
ensure his safety and even 15 minutes before his house was set
on fire by the irate mob, the CPI-M zonal committee secretary
of Birpara had met him, Lohar claimed.
Expressing his frustration before newsmen on the party's (CPI-M's) move to deny his relation with it, Lohar said it was a 'betrayal of a dedicated worker' and would definitely set a 'bad example '.
The officer in-charge of Alipurduar police station, Samsujjoha said that Lohar during interrogation admitted that he owned two houses one at Birpara in Jalpaiguri and the other at Sahebganj in Jharkhand and a cash of Rs 90,000 in his bank account. Lohar, however, claimed that his collection of Rs 90,000 was kept in bank for the welfare of Dalgaon Garden workers, the OC said.
