Kolkata, June 08: Mahua Mandal, Congress candidate for Vidyasagar assembly constituency in the metropolis, escaped unhurt when she was attacked allegedly by CPI(M) cadres during the bypoll today, party sources said. WBPCC vice-president Pradip Bhattacharya told newsmen that Mahua, daughter of former Union minister and suspended Trinamool Congress leader, Ajit Panja, was attacked by CPI(M) workers with lathis when she was moving in a car in Bechu Chatterjee street of North Kolkata.
Fortunately, he said, Mahua escaped unhurt, but her vehicle was damaged.
Complaints were immediately lodged with the Chief Election Commissioner and the state's Chief Electoral Officer, he said.
About 70 per cent turnout was recorded at Nabadwip and 61 per cent at Vidyasagar.
