Guwahati, Apr 28: The Gauhati High Court Bar Association today opposed the reported move by the Centre to appoint former Punjab police chief K P S Gill as Assam Governor. The Association took a serious note of the reported news about the appointment at an executive committee meeting during the day and asked the authorities to desist from any move that "might have serious repercussions among the people of the state," Apurba Kumar Sharma, the Secretary-General of the Association said. He said Assam is a sensitive state which "required a person with unquestionable integrity and a person of Gill's Calibre having been connected with a criminal offence of outraging the modesty of a lady officer is not fit for the post".
