Aug 31: Laura Davies fired a flawless six-under par 66 on Saturday to climb within one shot of leader Candie Kung after three rounds of the State Farm Classic. Seeking her first LPGA Tour win in more than two years, Davies made up three shots on leader Kung with one round to go. "My goal today was to shoot 66, and we did roughly what we needed to do to get into striking position," said Davies, who needs one win to qualify for the LPGA Hall of Fame. "If Candie would have gone and shot 66 as well, then I think we would have been finished and playing for second."
Kung carded a one-under 71 for a 54-hole total of 14-under 202.
South Korea's Hee-Won Han is two strokes off the lead and Karen Stupples is four shots back at 10-under 206. Former champion Rosie Jones is among four players tied at nine-under.
Davies finished fourth at the Nabisco Championship at the end of March, but her last LPGA win was the 2001 Wegmans Rochester Invitational.
"It would be a big win for me," she confessed.
"It would turn a disappointing year into a really, really good year. It would move me up the money list and get me in the ADT Tour Championship and stuff like that."
One advantage Davies will have Sunday is experience. While Kung is seeking her third win of the season, Davies is pursuing the 21st of her 16-year career.

The highlight of her third round on Saturday was an eagle at the 531-yard eighth hole, where she holed a bunker shot. She also made birdies at the first, fourth, 12th and 15th holes.
