Bangalore, Sept 01: Senior JD(S) leader S R Bommai today began the process of consultations with JD(U) leaders towards evolving a formula for merger of both factions of Janata Dal. Bommai, who has been asked to take the initiative for hammering out a solution that would unite the two parties, met JD(U) leaders from northern parts of Karnataka in the presence of the state unit leaders.
Speaking to reporters later, he expressed confidence that he would be able to come up with a formula that would find acceptance of both former Prime Minister H D Devegowda and Ramakrishna Hegde.
He said the Janata parivar should unite as an alternative to both the BJP and the Congress.
Unity efforts for merger of the two parties have been initiated long ago but have not made much headway, hitting one road block or another. Bureau Report
