Amritsar, Nov 11: Police has entered the Golden Temple complex and searched SPGC guest houses for weapons. Arrest warrants were issued against former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur and 74 Badal loyalists arrested in Punjab ahead of Tuesday`s election to the top Sikh religious body.

Amritsar came under a thick security cover in the wake of bitter rivalry for securing control of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak committee, which manages Sikh shrines across the country. The Golden temple city resembled a virtual police line as cops combed guest houses in the SGPC complex looking for arms and trouble makers and put up huge barricades around the shrine to prevent any violence in the surcharged atmosphere. In Kapurthala, a local court on Sunday issued arrest warrant against former SGPC president and sitting Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur in a power theft case. Preventive arrests continued in the state with 74 persons taken into custody for apprehension of breach of peace in Kapurthala, Muktsar and Faridkot taking to 725 the number of those arrested in past three days. Chief minister Amarinder Singh declared the steps were necessary to ensure free and fair polls. Bureau Report
