Bangalore, Jan 14: Sharpening its attack on NDA, particularly BJP, for targeting its president Sonia Gandhi, Congress today asked their leaders to "publicly apologise" to the people for their "indecent attacks" against her. "They must apologise publicly to the people of India", Congress spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters here, as the party accused Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had called for a "dignified debate", of being "guilty of huge hypocrisy".
"Vajpayee calls for a dignified debate. But he is guilty of a huge hypocrisy and downright intellectual dishonesty", as his associates BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan and Defence Minister George Fernandes had launched "indecent attacks against Sonia Gandhi", he charged.
Reddy said Vajpayee pleads for the need to conduct a "dignified discourse in electoral politics", but it was the "most blatant illustration of intellectual dishonesty".
However, he said, the people of the country were "too matured" for this kind of "indecent discourse". Bureau Report
