New Delhi, Aug 24: Shortly after the Union Cabinet decided to send back the ordinance on electoral reforms to president A P J Abdul Kalam without any changes, attorney general Soli Sorabjee met him and explained the "thinking" of the cabinet on the matter.
"It was a courtesy call and we discussed a whole range of subjects of general interest including the ordinance on the electoral reforms," Sorabjee told a news agency after the hour-long meeting with Kalam.
The attorney general, who was present at the meeting of the cabinet which decided to send back the ordinance without making any change in it despite the clarifications sought by the president, said he also conveyed the "high regard which the cabinet had for him".
When the issue of ordinance cropped up in the discussions, he explained to the president the "thinking of the cabinet on the matter", Sorabjee said.
Meanwhile, cabinet sources said that the ordinance in its original form would be sent back to the president through the minister concerned.
