Jaipur, Nov 16: Dogged by rebellion in their ranks over selection of candidates for assembly elections, both the ruling congress and the opposition BJP today went into a fire fighting mission with the hope that tempers will cool down and rebels would withdraw their nominations tomorrow, the last day of withdrawal of papers. "The dust will settle down and the party cadres would unitedly go to the polls to bring congress back to power," Pradesh Congress Committee chief Girija Vyas told reporters.
"Party workers' reactions are natural but they would realise that only one person can be selected for an assembly seat and "all would come to the aid of the party to remove congress," BJP national treasurer Ram Das Agrawal said.
Both the leaders were of the view that that most of the rebels in the fray with whom contacts were being made would withdraw in favour of respective official candidates by tomorrow.
Meanwhile, state leaders of both the parties are busy persuading rebels who have filed their nominations as independents.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and state chief of BJP Vasundhara Raje, the chief ministrial candidates, have both personally contacted rebels on phone and emissaries were being sent to persuade the rebels, sources in both the parties said.
Both the Congress and the BJP are each facing rebels on about 50 seats.
