New Delhi, June 19: Congress today accused BJP of "repeatedly shifting" its stand on the Babri Masjid demolition issue and squarely blamed the then BJP government led by Kalyan Singh fully responsible for the demolition.
"Definitely it is so. For political reasons, BJP is repeatedly shifting its stand on the issue of demolition of Babri Masjid", party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters when asked about Centre's submission on the matter before the Liberhan Commission.
The Centre today accused the then Kalyan Singh-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of failing to deploy the stationed Central forces to protect the disputed structure at Ayodhya and conceded before the Liberhan Commission that both Union and state governments did not have any contingency plan to meet the eventuality of demolition.
Asked if the BJP was passing the buck on Kalyan Singh, who has left the party, as also filing of the chargesheet against the accused in the Ayodhya case including Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and other senior leaders, Sharma said it was not the first time that they were making such statements on the demolition.
