New Delhi, Feb 22: BJP today rejected Congress attempt to distance itself from the beef controversy, saying that the main opposition was telling "white lies" that Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress had not issued any circular containing derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The party also demanded that prayer and namaz should be allowed to be offered daily at the Bhojshala and the mosque adjoining it instead of once a week as recommended by the Madhya Pradesh government. "We demand that congress apologise for the mistakes committed by it and the remarks made against the Prime Minister that he ate beef as stated in the circular released by Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress," party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters here.
He said a copy of the circular was sent to Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh and Congress leader Mukul Wasnik and it had given directions to Youth Congress units in the state to take rallies and put up the circular on notice boards.
"Why is Congress president Sonia Gandhi mum and dumb on the issue. Why has she also remained silent on the issue of bill on ban of cow slaughter," he said.
