Jammu, May 25: National Congress today termed the departure of former state minister and senior Congress leader Karan Singh's son Ajatshatru Singh from the party as "inconsequential" and said the people in Jammu and Kashmir do understand such "opportunistic" moves.
The decision of Ajatshatru Singh to join Congress was "expected" and was "inconsequential", NC's provincial president and senior leader Ajay Sadhotra said.

Ajatshatru had joined the National Conference after quitting Congress to "enjoy the fruits of power for six years as a minister in the NC government", Sadhotra said. "But the moment NC opted to act as an opposition party, he started feeling restless and uncomfortable," he added.

Sadhotra said this is an "index" of his opportunism and the people of the state do understand such moves.

Ajatshatru, who announced his decision yesterday, said he was coming back Congress as he felt that only a national party could help in the development of the state and "not a regional party". Bureau Report
