Mumbai, June 06: The BCCI-convened meeting of captains and coaches of the Ranji Trophy sides would be held in Mumbai today to ascertain their views on the new format for the tournament and other matters pertaining to domestic cricket. BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said that circulars had been sent to all the 27 affiliated units who participate in Ranji Trophy. BCCI technical committee chairman and former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar, "who was instrumental in dividing Ranji Trophy matches into elite and plate groups", would be present at the meeting, Dalmiya said.
"The meeting will enable us to ascertain the views of a cross-section of players about our new format for Ranji Trophy," he said. The board had introduced a two-tier Ranji Trophy format last season, with the top teams locking horns in the 'Elite' division, and the weaker ones fighting it out in the 'Plate' division.
The BCCI also intends to use the meeting to get an update on the re-structured Duleep Trophy as also a host of new facilities like gymnasiums being provided to the state associations. Bureau Report
