Washington, May 22: A top Coast Guard official Frances Fragos Townsend has been appointed deputy assistant to the President and deputy national security adviser for combating terrorism. Townsend, currently assistant commandant for intelligence at the Coast Guard will report to national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said. Townsend had earlier served in the US department of justice, where her duties included advising attorneys general on intelligence policy. Bureau Report
