Silicon Valley, Aug 02: The United States and India have the largest number of certified professionals in critical job skills in various sectors ranging from IT to healthcare, according to a new study.
The United States leads the world in number of skill certifications earned with over 239,000 in 2002, followed by India with 38,195, and the Russian federation with 15,242, says Brainbench, an online testing company. Pakistan is ninth, with Bulgaria rounding out the top ten in the world. Interestingly, with 354 certifications, Japan was placed 56 in the world.
The report said that despite far fewer certifications than in 2001, primarily reflecting Brainbench's move in this period to begin charging for its tests, India maintained its dominance in South Asia. Pakistan, with 4,970 certifications, was ninth in the top 10 countries and second in the South Asian region. Bangladesh, with 455 certifications took the third spot in the region, followed by Nepal with 105.
Despite its substantial lead among South Asian countries in the number of certified professionals, it is Bangladesh which has the highest in average test scores in the region, followed by India. Nepalese test takers scored lowest among all South Asian nations.
