Gorakhpur, Aug 23: Claiming that the fall of the Mayawati government was imminent, Congress today said opposition parties would unite to form a new government in Uttar Pradesh.
"The BSP-BJP coalition government in Uttar Pradesh has been reduced to a minority. It is bound to collapse during the coming assembly session, beginning on August 28," state Congress chief Jagadambika Pal said.
After the fall of the Mayawati regime, an alternative government would be formed by a united opposition and all attempts to bring the state under President's rule and hold mid-term poll would be frustrated, he told reporters here.
Pal said he had called on the governor and requested him to depute a retired high court judge as an observer during the no-trust motion to be moved against the state government by the Oppostion during the coming assembly session.
"The Mayawati government is not only anti-people and anti-democratic but also insensitive," he alleged and charged the Chief Minister with "diverting the relief fund meant for marooned people in flood-hit areas towards holding the BSP's August 25 rally."
