The special cell of Delhi Police has arrested one person from Deoband in Uttar Pradesh for his alleged involvement in a spy racket and recovered sensitive documents including those relating to deployment of troops in northern India. Police said that one person identified as Mohammad Islam alias Hanif was picked up on Tuesday from Deoband on the basis of leads provided by one Samayuddin a passenger of Samjhauta Express, who was arrested on December 26 on charges of spying for Pakistan. Samayuddin had disclosed during interrogation that he had procured sketches of the sensitive Jawahar tunnel, linking Jammu with the Kashmir valley, by Hanif. Hanif had disclosed that he joined the Indian Army in 1965 as a civilian telephone operator in general reserve engineering force and was posted in Jawahar tunnel from 1978 to 1987. He was contacted by one Iqbal Malik of Khairana village in UP for working for Pakistan in exchange for money. Hanif is said to have visited Lahore several times. Hanif had been living in Deoband after seeking voluntary retirement in 1999 and was in regular touch with Pak-based ISI agents police said. Bureau Report
