New Delhi, Aug 21: Providing great relief to the cola giants, the government on Thursday said the samples tested were "well within the safety limits" prescribed for packaged drinking water at present. However, a Joint Parliamentary Committee would be set up to probe the reports about high percentage of pesticide residues in Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola and ten other soft drink brands.

Earlier, the directorate of health of the Kerala government, had given clean chit to Coca-Cola when it had published reports showed its products to be free of harmful substances.
Traces of lead were "well below permissible limits," a company press release had said.
Meanwhile, Coca-Cola India President and CEO Sanjiv Gupta said the company's soft drinks "meet all the European norms" and that it was ready to face any testing of its products.
"Whatever water testing you do, we do not have any problem," he said. Bureau Report
