Amman, Dec 21: Jordan today insisted that the kingdom was among the "safest" countries in the world a day after the United States renewed a travel warning urging its citizens to be cautious. "This is an american decision that expresses their concerns. (however) we maintain that Jordan is one of the safest and most secure countries in the world," information Minister Mohammad Adwan told a news agency.
"We also advise citizens of any country to always be vigilant and be cautious and careful everywhere and anywhere," Adwan said in reaction to the US decision.
"But that does not reflect in any way on Jordan's security or being a very safe country for everyone, for its citizens and its guests."
The US State Department yesterday urged US nationals to carefully consider the risks of travel to Jordan in the aftermath of the murder of a us diplomat in Amman in October.
It called on US citizens in Jordan "to consider their personal security and to take measures they deem appropriate to ensure their well-being, including consideration of departure from the country".
Adwan recalled that last week jordan arrested two suspected members of osama bin laden's al-qaeda network in connection with foley's murder, drawing praise from us ambassador edward gnehm.
Gnehm said that the December 14 arrests of Libyan sale Saad Salem Bin Soued and his Jordanian accomplice Yasser Fathi Ibrahim could have a positive influence on a US decision in November to allow non-essential embassy staff to leave Jordan.
