Dehra Dun, Jan 11: Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) president Diwakar Bhatt, who was on a fast unto death in Roorkee jail for the past several days, broke his fast yesterday after being released. Bhatt, whose health had been deteriorating over the past week, was admitted to Doon Hospital here yesterday.
Uttaranchal sports minister Pritam Singh said here that he had assured Bhatt that the government was trying its best to withdraw cases against the Uttarakhand activists.
The UKD president had courted arrest demanding withdrawal of cases against the activists.
Pritam Singh, who went to Roorkee yesterday as an emissary of Uttaranchal chief minister N D Tiwari, said the government had already withdrawn 306 cases and the process to withdraw the remaining cases was underway.
