New York, May 10: From hanging butterfly houses and microwavable foot warmers, to audio recording picture frames that say "I love you, Mom" in so many words, when it comes to finding last-minute gifts for Mother`s Day, the Internet is the place.
With more than 75 million mothers in the United States alone, it`s no wonder Mother`s Day is the third most popular holiday in the world, after Christmas and Easter.

Yet, according to a recent survey, most Americans wait until the week of Mother`s Day, with one in five holding out until the last two days, to decide how they will show their appreciation.

It`s not surprising then that many now turn to the Internet to help them quickly find the right gift.

"You can`t not buy your mother a Mother`s Day gift," said Michael Ahern, chief executive of giftcertificates.com.
The site at http://www.giftcertificates.com offers certificates from over 300 different merchants, with most people typically spending $25 to $50. This year, however, Ahern noted that "there`s a lot more $100s going out."

A more focused selection is found at AllMothersDayGifts.com (http://www.allmothersdaygifts.com) with items like personalized T-shirts, coffee mugs, jewelry and stationery.

EverythingMothersDay (http://www.everythingmothersday.com) gives visitors a Top 10 list of gifts, from a Brazilian hammock with macrame trim for $39.99 to the ultimate Audrey Hepburn DVD collection for $50.99.

Spafinder.com is proving especially popular, Ahern said. It`s tailored for the individual, since you can buy a generic gift token and Mom can choose where she wants to spend it.

And, of course, there are perennial favorites such as Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macy`s, Crate and Barrel and Sharper Image.

Gift certificates are designed for the serious procrastinators among us, Ahern said, because you can literally go online the morning of Mother`s Day, order the gift you want and either print it out or e-mail it to Mom.
