An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rocked the city and many towns in Mahakoshal region of Madhya Pradesh early on Tuesday. The quake, with its epicentre 32 kms east of Jabalpur at Mendi village, was experienced at 4.03 am, making people rush out of their houses in panic.
However, there was no loss of life or damage to property, though some houses developed cracks, according to Jabalpur division commissioner, Madan Mohan Upadhya. The intensity of the quake was most severe in Jabalpur itself while its effect was somewhat less in other districts including Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara and Mandla and Narsinghpur, he told PTI.
Jabalpur had experienced an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale on May 22, 1997 that had claimed 39 lives and caused losses worth crores of rupees. Bureau Report
