The railways have made elaborate security arrangements to curb the increasing activities of the ISI and monitor the operations of anti-social elements in all divisions along the Indo-Nepal border.

Chief security commissioner of north-east railways Brijlal said in Samastipur, Bihar on Tuesday that the railway protection force had been alerted and special vigil was being maintained in the division to protect railway property. Night track patrolling had also been intensified following a sudden spurt in attacks on railway property, he added.

“An intensive search operation had also been launched with the help of dog squads to trace explosives hidden in the bogies of trains. These apart, the railways had also initiated effective steps to check rampant smuggling of contraband foreign goods and narcotics in the divisions,” he said. Under the drive, smuggled goods worth Rs 30 lakh had been seized during Sptember in the Samastipur division of North-east Railway, he disclosed.

Mr Brijlal said a joint combing operation of Uttar Pradesh and Bagha Railway Police was on to rescue the railway employees, who were recently abducted from Kharpokhra railway station of Samastipur division.

Meanwhile, all railway police superintendents have been asked to intensify patrolling and maintain round-the-clock vigil in their areas, inspector general of police (Rail) A K Gupta said. A joint drive of RPF and government Rail Police had been launched against anti-social elements, he said adding that all SPS of the Railways had been directed to review the situation everyday. “Six criminals had been arrested in connection with the abduction of the railway employees, and raids were being conducted on the basis of the information provided by them,” he said.

Railway sources said that12 commandos and six cops of Bihar military police had been deployed in all important trains. The decision for such deployment was taken at a high-level meeting in Samastipur on Monday. Bureau Report
