Two moderate earthquakes shook Taiwan on Sunday morning, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The first quake, measuring 4 on the richter scale, hit Hualien county in eastern Taiwan at 5:18 am. Its epicentre was 8.9 kilometres underground. The second, 4.1-magnitude tremor jolted the same plane at 5.24 Am. Its epicentre was 13 kilometres underground.
Hualien is next to Nantou county, where an earthquake killed 2,400 people and injured 10,000 on September 21 last year.
