Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta on Thursday said there was no threat to his government though it would be left with a thin majority in the state Vidhan Sabha once the hill state of Uttranchal comes into existence next month. “My government is firmly in the saddle though it would have a thin majority of 205 in the 403-member Vidhan Sabha after the creation of Uttranchal state,” Gupta told newsmen Lucknow.

On the opposition's demand to dismiss the UP government for its alleged failure on various issues, he said “Infact the opposition does not want to make efforts to pull down my government but believes in criticism only”. “If they have the guts, let them pull down my government” Gupta added.
Asked about the appointment of new chief secretary of the state, the chief minister said the matter would be decided soon.

Meanwhile, energy minister and president of the Loktantrik Congress Party (LCP), a major alliance partner in the Gupta government said, “The alliance partners are behind the chief minister. “There is neither any threat to the chief minister nor to his government, Naresh Agarwal told reporters.
