New Delhi: A television anchor with a Telegu news channel reportedly committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of her residence late on Sunday night. The anchor has been identfied as 36-year-old Radhika Reddy.

The body of the woman was spotted by neighbours who informed local police. The Kukatpally Police Station Sub-Inspector, Majid informed that the anchor committed suicide shortly after coming back from work. She died on the spot from head injury, leg fracture and multiple blunt injuries. Initial investigations, according to news agency ANI, have revealed a suicide note which reads that depression forced her to take the unfortunate step. She had divorced her husband six months back and had been living with her parents and 14-year-old son.


According to statistics from WHO, 56,675,969 Indians - 4.5 per cent of the total population - suffers from depression. It also said 36 per cent of Indians are likely to suffer from depression at some point in their lives. Another study from Assocham found that 42.5 per cent of corporate employees in India already do suffer from depression. Psychological experts have been urging people to go for counselling at the first signs of what could possibly be depression. Even Bollywood celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Ileana D'Cruz and Karan Johar have cited personal experiences in urging people to not give up when suffering from depression.
