Delhi Police says 123 FIRs filed, 630 arrested for causing violence

Delhi Police in a press release puts the official number of deaths due to the riots at 38, the number of FIRs filed are 123 and the number of people detained/arrested is 630. It said that the FSL and SIT teams are visiting the incident sites. Officials said that police has been deployed, all senior police officers will be at the spot for the next few days. It also stated that the number of distress calls has reduced and there is complete normalcy in the area.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that as many as 9-night shelters have been arranged for those displaced by riots. "People who have lost their homes, they need immediate relief. Tomorrow itself we will provide them Rs 25,000 and within 2-3 days the govt will do the assessment of their loss. After the assessment they will get the due compensation," he said.
The Delhi government with Aman Ekta Committee and the help of Delhi Police distributed relief material to the people at riot-affected areas in the city. Also, a form is being handed over to those whose houses and/or shops were burnt down, or who those have lost their family members. The Delhi government announced that it will then grant appropriate compensation.
The SIT of the Delhi Crime Branch today arrested 24 people named for rioting in four different FIRs of Dayalpur Police Station.

"Almost 3,500 PCR calls were received on February 24, the day of the riots. The figure had increased to 7,500 on February 25. All these calls came from the north-east district," says Delhi Police.
The DCP of PCR unit in Delhi Police said that the highest number of calls came from north east district in Delhi on February 24 and 25, on the day of violence. DCP Sharad Sinha said that on February 23, almost 700 PCR calls were received from north east district.

The autopsy report further stated that the violent mob stabbed Ankit Sharma to death and dragged and dumped his body in a drain. His body was fished out a day later, on Feb 25.
Intelligence Bureau operative Ankit Sharma was brutally stabbed to death during the violence in northeast Delhi. The autopsy report states: "Multiple abrasion.. deep cut.. by sharp edge objects." The panel of doctors, who carried out post mortem, have clearly stated that he was brutally and repeatedly stabbed, leading to his death.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut demands that violence in Delhi must be discussed in Parliament as to how and why it happened despite a strong government at the Centre. "Riots took place in the national capital for three days and could not be controlled despite the fact that there is a strong govt at the Centre. It should be discussed in the next session of Parliament as to how and why it occurred," Raut said.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation has already initiated steps to clean the streets and repair damaged public properties in riot-affected areas. Other civic agencies are also ensuring the civic amenities to the citizens is restored as soon as possible. Movement of traffic on the highway and connecting roads is returning to normal.
As a confidence-building measure among different sections of the society, Delhi Police has started holding Peace Committee Meetings across Delhi to normalise situation and improve inter-community harmony. Such Peace Committee Meetings would continue till situation normalises. So far, nearly 330 Peace Committee Meetings have been organised in various districts of Delhi in the last two days. Apart from this, meeting with Residents Welfare Associations (RWA) and Market Welfare Associations (MWA) have also been convened in several areas.
Nearly 7,000 Central Para-Military Forces have been deployed in the affected areas of North-East District since February 24. Besides, Delhi Police has also deployed three Special CPs, six Joint CPs, one Additional CP, 22 DCPs, 20 ACPs, 60 Inspectors, 1,200 other ranks and 200 Lady Police under the overall supervision of Commissioner of Police to effectively guide and supervise Police response so as to contain and normalise the situation.
So far, 48 FIRs, pertaining to clashes, loss of lives/property, etc., have already been registered and further FIRs would be registered in due course.
Amit Shah instructed the Delhi Police to provide security to all sections of society irrespective of caste and religion. "Situation is slowly returning to normal. Citizens are requested not to lay credence to any rumour," the Minister appealed.

Some members of the Muslim community in Chand Bagh in North-East district where violence erupted, managed to save a temple from being vandalised by forming a human chain. ""The temple is around 35 years. The area is dominated by residents from the minority community. Locals -- Hindus and Muslims were alert. They saw to it that no outsider comes here. Not even one stone was pelted at the temple," temple priest Om Prakash said.
Locals distributed food to kin of those who were injured in the recent Delhi violence and recuperating at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital here. "We are distributing food to help people who are coming here to meet or collect bodies of their relatives or a family member. People are also coming from Haryana. Locals leaving here have taken this initiative to help the people at their difficult times," Moosa Alvi, one of the organisers, said.
With no major incident reported from the riot-hit northeast Delhi in the last 36 hours, the Home Ministry said that prohibitory orders imposed under section 144 of the CrPC will be relaxed for a total of 10 hours on Friday.
As many as 514 suspects were either arrested or detained for questioning and further arrests would be made in the course of an investigation, the Home Ministry officials said.
Delhi Police on Thursday issued an appeal, urging people and media persons to come forward and give their statements and share pictures and video footage in connection with the violence in North East Delhi.
"Whereas incidents of clashes have taken place in the northeast district, Delhi since February 23. All those who are witnesses to the incidents or have captured any activity on their mobile phones or camera are hereby requested to come forward and give their statements, footage and pictures in their possession at DCP office, northeast district, Seelampur, Delhi, during office hours, on any working day within seven days," said B K Singh, Additional CP Crime Branch.
At least 38 people, including a police Head Constable and Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma, died while around 200 people sustained serious injuries in the violence that raged for three days in the North-East areas of Delhi.
Two Special Investigation Teams have been constituted under the Crime Branch, Delhi Police to investigate the violence.
