Himachal Assembly Election 2022 Result: Key constituencies included Seraj from where Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had contested again. Though Thakur won, BJP could not reverse the anti-incumbency trend in the hill state.

    The final results are out and as per the final result updated by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Congress won the Himachal Pradesh assembly election and bagged 40 seats, . The BJP, on the other side, ended up with 25 seats, while the AAP managed to win only five.

    Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh, on Thursday, said that the party is not worried about poaching. While speaking with ANI, the Congress leader reiterated, "It is a very emotional moment for me as I can see the same kind of support from people as it was for the late Virbhadra Singh."

    "Chandigarh is an easily accessible meeting point for MLAs and we are not worried about poaching," she added.

    According to Election Commission, BJP candidate D S Thakur defeated six-time Congress MLA Asha Kumari in Himachal Pradesh's Dalhousie assembly seat by a margin of 9,918 votes. Asha Kumari was being projected as the chief ministerial candidate in Himachal Pradesh.

    It was during his tenure as the state Congress chief that the party won by-elections to the Mandi Lok Sabha seat and three assembly seats last year. Sitting MLA and lone CPI(M) candidate Rakesh Singh and Independents Indu Verma and Vijaypal Khachi were also in the fray. (PTI)

    Incumbent Congress MLA Bhawani Singh won Himachal Pradesh's Fatehpur seat by defeating his nearest rival forest minister Rakesh Pathania by a margin of 7,354 votes. The contest for Fatehpur was keenly watched as Pathania, who has won three times from Nurpur assembly seat, was shifted to the constituency. Singh got 32,452 votes while Pathania received 25,462 votes, according to Election Commission data.

  • Himachal Poll result: Vote counting continues, EC says THIS

    Counting of votes began at 8 am at 68 counting halls spread across 59 locations throughout the state with the taking up of postal ballots first.
    After a gap of 30 minutes from the commencement of counting of postal ballot papers, the counting of votes for electronic voting machines (EVMs) will commence at 8.30 am. The EVM counting will continue irrespective of the stage of postal ballot counting, the Election Commission said.

    Himachal Pradesh saw an intense campaign with BJP trying to return to power for a second consecutive term and Congress backing on its '10 guarantees' that the party listed out in its manifesto to take them home. The emergence of the Aam Aadmi Party as the third major political force in the state has intensified the electoral battle. Congress won 40 seats. BJP, the ruling party, managed to win only 25 seats in the state. 35 seats are needed to attain the majority mark in Himachal. Earlier in the day, it seemed like the contest was going to be a closely fought one but now Congress has comfortably won the state. The Aam Aadmi Party did not win any seat in the hill state. Of 55 lakh voters in the state, over 75 per cent exercised their franchise in the November 12 election to elect its 68-member assembly and government. A total of 412 candidates were in the fray in this election. In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP won 44 seats and the Congress 21, with one seat going to CPI-M, and two to independent candidates. Congress was hoping to change the last election's trend this year and are mighty pleased with the results.
