1,370 new COVID-19 infections take Rajasthan`s total to 73,325, active cases at 14,219

In a trageic incident in Mahad city in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, a five-storey residential building collapsed in on Monday (August 24) evening leaving at least one person dead and nearly 60 were rescued. Sources said that 20-25 people are still feared trapped inside the rubble of the collapsed structure. Rescue operations are still underway.

  • Rajasthan: 1,370 new COVID-19 positive infections and 13 deaths were reported today. Total number of cases jumps to 73,325, of which, 14,219 are still active.
     

  • Karnataka: 8,161 new confirmed infections along with 148 deaths were reported in the state today. The total number of cases now stands at 2,91,826 including 82,410 active cases and 4,958 COVID-19 deaths.

  • Delhi: National capital records 1,544 new cases and 17 deaths. The total number of cases jumps to 1,64,071, of which, 1,47,743 are recovered cases, 11,998 active cases and 4,330 deaths.

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted heavy rainfall over east and northwest India till August 28 and also issued a red alert for Odisha for August 26 and for Chhattisgarh on August 27. It said a low-pressure area (cyclonic circulation) over north Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood is very likely to move west-northwestwards during the next five days.

  • Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old woman was bound in iron chains, tortured and held captive by her husband for several months in East Delhi's Trilokpuri. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday rescued the woman, who had been married for the last 11 years and was held captive in her own house. The DCW said that they are in the process of filing an FIR in the case.

     

  • The Enforcement Directorate has filed a complaint against 12 accused associated with Hizbul Mujahideen terror group, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002 (PMLA). The complaint has been filed before Special Judge, Patiala House Court in New Delhi. (Read more)

  • The Monsoon Session of Parliament will be held from September 14 to October 1. Hectic preparations are underway for the Monsoon Session of Parliament with several first-time measures because of the COVID-19 pandemic such as staggered sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and use of both chambers and galleries to accommodate members while following physical distancing norms.

  • Delhi: The Delhi Police Railway Unit has arrested a man, posing as a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, for smuggling cannabis. The man, identified as Rohit, was arrested on August 24 by the police at the New Delhi railway station with 72 kg of cannabis.

  • Gujarat: A fire broke out on Tuesday inside the ICU ward of a government hospital in Jamnagar district of Gujarat. All patients have been evacuated from the ICU of the Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital. The Jamnagar Municipal Commissioner and Collector are present at the hospital.

  • The Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 25) reserved the verdict on the quantum of sentence to be given to advocate Prashant Bhushan, convicted for contempt of court for his tweets against the judiciary.

  • The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday (August 25, 2020) said that the country’s COVID-19 mortality rate stands at 1.58% which is one of the lowest in the world. 

  • India has slammed Pakistan exposing its litany of lies at the United Nations after Islamabad's UN envoy claimed to have given a statement in a Security Council meeting not open to non-Council members and said that the biggest sponsor of cross-border terrorism against it now tries to 'masquerade" itself as a victim of terror.
