Cyclone Yaas is likely to reach Assam by 26-27 May, says CM Himanta Biswa

Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Admiral (Retd) D K Joshi said the cyclone is likely to have little or negligible impact on the Islands.

New Delhi: The Odisha government rushed a large contingent of rescue and relief teams to Balasore district bordering West Bengal on Monday (May 24) where the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas is likely to make landfall.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday reviewed the preparations for Cyclone Yaas including the evacuation of people on the high seas as well as in vulnerable coastal areas and the safety of COVID-19 facilities.


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda held a meeting via video conferencing on Monday with party Members of Parliament and state office-bearers of the states likely to be affected due to cyclone Yaas.


In another update, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court`s order which allowed the house arrest of four Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, who are accused in the Narada case.
