New Delhi: A massive spike of 1.84 lakh new COVID-19 cases took India's total coronavirus count to 1.38 crore, as per the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday (April 14, 2021).

India reported 1,84,372 new COVID-19 cases alongside 82,339 recoveries and 1,027 deaths in the last 24 hours. The unprecedented surge in infections has taken the country's active count to 13,65,704.


Ten states namely Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan have shown a rise in the COVID-19 daily new cases. 82.04% of the new cases are reported from these 10 states only.


This is the third consecutive day when the country witnessed over 1.60 lakh cases in 24 hours. Earlier on Monday, India's total count rose by 1.84 lakh, followed by 1.61 lakh cases on Tuesday. 

The recent sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases has now made India the second-worst-coronavirus hit country in the world. It overtook Brazil on Monday and is now behind the United States which has so far reported 3,12,67,359 COVID-19 cases.


Meanwhile, 11,11,79,578 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered through 16,53,488 sessions across India. Over 40 lakh vaccination doses were administered in the country in the last 24 hours.


"The cumulative vaccination beneficiaries include 90,48,686 Health Care Workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 55,81,072 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,01,36,430 Front Line Workers (FLWs) (1stdose), 50,10,773 FLWs (2nddose), 4,24,66,354 1st dose beneficiaries and 24,67,484 2nd dose beneficiaries more than 60 years old and 3,56,50,444 (1st dose) and 8,18,335 (2nd dose) beneficiaries aged 45 to 60 years.


The Union Health Ministry also informed that the country has crossed 26 crore (26,06,18,866) COVID-19 tests.
