According to the Prime Minister's Office, PM Modi has inaugurated 13 projects worth over Rs 1,850 crores and laid the foundation stone of 9 projects worth around Rs 2,950 crore.

The projects span across sectors such as road infrastructure, drinking water supply, health, urban development and IT.

"A few days from now, on January 21, Manipur will complete 50 years of statehood. I am sure that North East is all set to become the new gate of development for the country," PM Modi said.

"Manipur will become the main source of India's growth trajectory and will stretch its potential to other parts of India via enhanced road connectivity and infrastructure projects," he added.

The Prime Minister expressed that the North East, where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's army hoisted the flag for the first time calling it the gateway to India's independence, is now becoming the gateway to fulfilling the dreams of new India.

"Today, Manipur is becoming a symbol of a new culture of change. Though connectivity is a priority, Creativity is equally important," the Prime Minister said.

"New development projects in the pipeline have proved that the 'double-engine' government is dedicated to shifting its focus from 'Don't look east' to 'Act-East'," he added.

Before the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi was honoured by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in traditional Manipuri style.

After the programme in Imphal, PM Modi will proceed to Agartala to inaugurate the New Integrated Terminal Building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and launch two key development initiatives.
