The incident took place on Udhampur-Ramnagar Road near Kaua Village.

On Friday, a car carrying six people was swept away by an avalanche in J&K's Kupwara district. Along with the six passengers who are reported to be tourists, another three people are missing.

A search and rescue operation was launched by teams of police, Army, SDRF and Mountain Rescue. Heavy and continuous snowfall in the area though has made it difficult for local teams to locate the vehicle and its passengers.

Meanwhile, five bodies have been recovered and the death toll in the avalanche has mounted to eight.
