13 held for abducting villagers, beating cops in Chhattisgarh
As many as 13 people of a village were arrested for allegedly abducting seven persons from a neighbouring village and attacking police personnel in Chhattisgarh`s Raigarh district, police said on Monday.

The incident happened last night, when the residents of Hardijhariya village kidnapped seven persons of adjoining Chhirwani village and later beat up four policemen who had gone to rescue the abducted persons, Raigarh Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Shukla said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the residents of Hardijhariya were facing electricity crisis for past few months. They suspected that people from Chhirwani village were involved in interrupting power supply to their village by cutting transmission wires.
Perturbed over the incidents, the villagers of Hardijhariya allegedly abducted seven people of Chhirwani last night while they were returning from a market.
On getting information about the kidnapping, a police team headed by sub-inspector Ashwani Diwan along with some people of Chhirwani went to rescue the abducted villagers, the SP said.
However, the abductors refused to release the villagers and attacked those who had come to rescue them leaving 14 people injured, including four policemen. The kidnappers also damaged three vehicles, including one belonging to police, and seven motorcycles, he said.
Later, additional police force was sent to the place and the abducted persons were rescued.
Thirteen villagers of Hardijhariya were rounded up in this connection, he said.
They were booked under IPC section 354 (kidnapping), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 147 (rioting), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees or upwards) and others, he said.
They all were produced in a local court today which sent them to 14-day judicial custody, the SP said, adding that further probe was on.
