Approximately 120 miles east of New Delhi, in Barbatpur village, a dog died a heroic death after saving its owner from a ferocious tiger attack.

Gurdev Singh, a farmer, had been sleeping in the open outside his home, when Jacky, the dog, picked up the scent of the approaching predator.

Although Jacky managed to alert his owner, the owner took a little while to gather his wits, but the tiger had made its move.

However, before the tiger could strike his target, Jacky intervened immediately, which gave Gurdev Singh time to get a stick and raise an alarm.

As soon as Singh's family came to his aid, the tiger escaped, dragging Jacky away with him.

The four-year-old dog's body was found a while later some distance away and he was given a formal burial by the village.

Jacky's mother was a stray dog and he was taken in as a pup by Gurdev Singh's children.
