In an effort to bolster its underwater fighting capabilities, the Indian Navy is planning to buy Full-Mission Submarine Simulators from Israel, 'Defense News' journal reported.
Quoting a senior Indian official, the journal said that current plans call for a simulator to be delivered to the Indian Navy's Anti-submarine Warfare School at Kochi. New Delhi and Tel Aviv have also begun preliminary talks on the joint manufacture of simulators at Indian facilities, it said.
The Indian Navy currently has Kilo-class, German HDW and Foxtrot-class submarines, the journal said, adding the Navy planned to lease a nuclear submarine from Russia by the end of this year. The report also said that the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is developing a nuclear submarine that is expected to be completed by 2008. Bureau Report
