The Executive Committee of the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) will meet in Sringar on Thursday to formulate a stand on the summit meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf. The APHC meeting has acquired much importance after Pakistani High Commission invited members of the amalgam for high tea during the stay of Gen Pervez Musharraf in India.
Earlier, there were reports that Musharraf will not meet Hurriyat members keeping in mind India’s disapproval.
APHC chairman Prof Abdul Gani Bhat said on July 2 that the that executive committee of the 23-party alliance would meet to chalk out the strategy in case no reply was received from the two leaders to the amalgam`s letters seeking an audience before or after the summit meeting. ``We could have organised the meeting in couple of days, but most of our executive members are out of station,`` Prof Bhat said.
He said that Mirwaiz Omar Farooq was in Mali to attend the OIC meeting while Mohammad Yaseen Malik was in England. Prof Bhat said that Syed Ali Geelani was on a week-long tour to Doda district.
He offered no comments when asked about the reports that Pakistan had decided not to insist Gen Musharraf`s meeting with the Hurriyat leaders during his visit to India.
However, he said, the APHC was awaiting the official announcement from Pakistan. The APHC chairman had sent identical letters to Vajpayee and Gen Musharraf seeking an appointment before or after their summit meeting.
Prof Bhat said that the lasting solution to the Kashmir issue was possible only when all the three parties--Pakistan, India and the people of Jammu and Kashmir sit together.
