General (Retd.) Singh, who was reacting to the arrest of separatist leader Masarat Alam by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in connection with the raising of Pakistani flags during a rally at Srinagar, said the Indian Government knows the law of this country and will do what is best for the nation.

"The government will work in accordance to that. Let Pakistan be happy if they are. Protests keep happening daily. So, it doesn`t make a difference," he added.

Masarat was arrested earlier in the day in the case registered in Budgam Police Station in connection with the provocative actions during the rally in Srinagar on Wednesday.

As a preventive measure, another separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest.
